Metal and Glass

Metal and Glass

There were many metal bashers helping to enhance and increase the sale of pressed glass. E&J leek was one of the biggest companies who marked their ware “Celtic Plate made in England”. The Grace Guide indicated that they operated from the Empire Works, Livery Street, Birmingham and they attended the British industrial fair in 1929 and 1937. There were also two companies in Stoke, James Clarke and Sons and WM Lindop & Sons who made metal ware. In 1966 Davidson Glass was taken over by a metal basher Abrahams & Company.

In 1998 “Queen Anne” of Wednesbury bought Mayell, The New York Gift Company. “Queen Anne” silver plating was founded in Birmingham in 1919 and is one of the last English silver plating companies let in the UK. Its products are stamped “Made in England”.
